I see nothing wrong with TF2 being a niche game nowadays. That has been the case for YEARS, and I dunno how it is any different because of some game getting an update next week as if TF2 was affected by it in any way, shape or form. As if TF2 turns into a niche game after that update when it is already a niche game before that update.
You see, what's going to happen is that MR gets its update, and TF2 remains exactly the same. It's as unspectacular as it can be. But if posting nothingburgers brings you joy, then go off champ.

When * the final shape * released for d2 i accepted the game was dead. Sure technically d2 has less or sometimes more players then tf2 but I would never call it anymore then a dead game now.

I mean ♥♥♥♥, I still play Realm of the Mad God to this day, simply because it's a game I enjoy. I wouldn't call TF2 or RotMG thriving, yet here I am, playing both of them.

The only reason I'm here is to take the piss out of people like you, who claim that "X is gonna kill TF2 for good this time". This is the same obsession as people say about TF2 players when another hero shooter exists.

As for when TF2 has become a niche game, I'd say that it was when the updates stagnated and TF2 was basically put in maintenance mode, so sometime after Jungle Inferno. That's around when people started losing interest, if not from Meet your Match turning players off because casual was a mess.
