Is this a new custom ?

I played a lot of Team Fortress 2 a few years ago and recently decided to start playing again.

Needless to say, I've lost some of my skill since then, but not to the point of being completely ridiculous.

Something happened to me today that has never happened to me before in all my years playing this game: a small group of "top players", noticing my low ranking, repeatedly called for a vote to remove me from the (casual) server as an "inactive player" (which I wasn't).

Is this some new way of filtering players on "casual" servers to keep only those who suit the top-ranked players?

Wouldn't these people who want to keep to themselves be better off joining competitive servers rather than kicking players they deem too low-level from casual servers?

We call them ♥♥♥♥♥.

They aren't always even the top players on the server, just idiots who want to kick "for teh lulz" and it often works b/c many still have the instant-F1 reflex from the bot epidemic.

While I don't think this is a new phenomenon it's certainly has grown in the past ~3 months or so.

There should perhaps be a mechanism in the game that prevents this kind of vote if the player isn't actually AFK and is actively moving and playing.
...Although this probably wouldn't stop these "♥♥♥♥♥" from using another reason to kick those they consider undesirable.
