I did the same thing as "NotJim" when the update came out.

I have now completed my Google search and sent invites to every owner of full sets that I could find with public pack info on tf2items.com . After searching 19 pages of results I have sent only 41 invitations to this group, so my original idea of naming us 'The 47 Ronin' may have a number closer to reality than I suspected.

I got insanely lucky with my set - traded buds for conch + fan + zatochi + larrikin robin + v whoopee cap the day the update rolled.

La Muli-Muli I wouldn't bet on that... you can run a google search on all of tf2items and the v conch is very rare indeed.... combined with the fact that many of the listings show owners who do not possess full sets, so... 83 *is* a somewhat arbitrary number based on partial sample data from tf2stats, however I would be GREATLY surprised if we find that many people eligible for membership

rebmcr I originally toyed with the idea of the name "The 47 Ronin" after the legendary Samurai group, as I suspect the real number of full sets may be that low, but was afraid more people know 'Samurai' than 'Ronin'. Each of you was found and contacted via a Google search of tf2items for the rarest of the weapons, the vintage concheror. However, unlike each of you, many owners of v. conch or v. fan have not acqured full sets yet. Obviously there could be more located in private packs, but the odds are fairly small, and given the amount of hoarding among some collectors the odds diminish further.

The "83 complete sets" is from tf2stats, AFAIK. They list only around 250 HOUWARs, when there are about 510 in existence.
Assuming the distribution of viewed backpacks is roughly similar, I would expect there to be around 175 V.Shogun sets.

HOWEVER... not having 88 members didn't stop the Crazy 88 from keeping their cool name :¬)
