if it keeps freezing, use the large address aware. you can get it with the lazy newb pack.

Anhydrous: The iron anvil is not available in your current embark site. Try different dwarf civs and different sites.

Why can't I embark with an iron anvil? All I can have is an expensive steel anvil.

Oh if the carp attack you just thow the water at them or equip the waterskin and bludgon them with it. It has quite a bit of mass.

Fill your waterskin from nearby pond/river, sell water at shop, repeat for infinite money.
