You need a VPN program called LogMeIn Hamachi set up on two local computers and Moonbase Console on both, placed in the games' file folder. One computer will host the game, and the other, using a copy-paste code, can join. Message back if you have questions.

I have the github link for MoonbaseConsole v2.2, however as far as I know you cannot play over a network. It is confined to only a home LAN connection, or local server. I am currently gathering game assets, but it will be a long time before I figure out how to integrate server play into the current build.:Hub:

I ran into something like this years ago when the patch was not ran on all of the installs. However, this should not be a problem with the steam version, as it is the latest version. One thought is to make sure that "Allow" is clicked if the firewall pop-up comes up; but, you probably already did that. Something I run into on Moonbase Commander when we play on our LAN is that we sometimes have to change which computer is hosting the game, and have everyone else join it, as sometimes (intermittantly without knowing why) a game created on a particular host computer just won't be found. We recreate it on one of the others, and it works.

I'm trying to play a LAN game but the joining members turn into AI? Anyone encounter this?

As for other utilities that will allow you to share maps and play across the net, such as MoonBaseIP and MBCimport, Zauron still has them up on his website at http://www.zauron.net/utilities.php

The link "Moonbase Console 2.1.6" link on this steam group page does not seem to go anywhere. I can't seem to find the zip file with MoonbaseConsole.EXE in it anywhere - if someone finds it, please post a link. On a side note, I easily found the latest version (2_1_26) of the source code searching for "MoonbaseConsole source" as the exact search term and then compiled it myself using the free MinGW C++ compiler and it works great on Windows 7. NOTE for folks not knowing what Moonbase Console is: it creates random maps (larger than what the editor does, even) and lets you play them in either Single Player or Multiplayer (over the internet via IP).

Any takers using Moonbase IP or Moonbase Commander, let me know.

Use a search engine to find "Moonbase Console" (it's a tool that lets you play over tcp/ip and does some random map creation). The source code is at the "github" site that will most likely come up first, but you can find the program file a little down the list on a few sites.

I tried the 'Moonbase Console' 2.1.25 (can not find 2.1.6). It does not work with Steam.

The link to the console doesn't work. And does this multiplayer method work on the steam version anyways? I'd test it myself if that link was working.

Anyone up for a game? I'd gladly be challenged.

In case anyone's interested, I spoke to MYCROFT, author of the original Moonbase Console, and he gave me the source code. I've put it up on Github here:
https://github.com/michaelbarlow7/moonbase-console .

I've managed to compile it, though in my experience it only works if you place it in the same location as Moonbase Commander. I haven't added anything new to it though, so you may as well just use version 2_1_26 linked below.

I'm able to play Moonbase Commander with anyone, just plop me a message if you wanna play!

I'm hosting Moonbase Console here for now. I couldn't find live links anywhere else on the internet. I recommend putting this somewhere safe.

Best game ever.

I tried to play online with a friend using both Moonbase Console and MoonbaseIP to no avail. I'm pretty sure firewalls weren't an issue. Can anyone help?
Aug 16, 2012 @ 8:53pm
I just thought I'd let anyone know that's interested that myself and 2 others are making a spiritual successor to MBC. It's called Kingdom Commander. We're still early in development but have already run a successful pre-alpha playtest and are looking for any fans interested to join our group.

Thanks again!

Moonbase commander should install just fine on Windows 7. My CD autoplays for the install on windows 7, but it can be ran manually. After install, just be sure to set the "Windows XP" compatibility after you install (right click icon, choose properties). Also, if you set the setting for the .he3 file in your hegames.ini file in your windows directory to point the installed directory (rather than the CD) you will not need to insert the CD every time to play (be sure to copy that .he3 file to that directory on your hard disk).

How do I install MBC on windows 7? I have been trying for about an hour.

Hey guys! I made a MBC icon. It's an orange DeWulf. http://ompldr.org/vOHZmaA

In Windows 7, be sure to right click on the "Play Moonbase Commander" icon and set the properties to "Windows XP" compatibility... or, it will keep asking you to insert the CD and then quit.

Thanks for pointing that out, Zakan. Steam really does not like FTP links (and the server seems to be down now anyway), so I've changed that link to be to FilePlanet. (Sadly, I couldn't find a better source for that file)

This is the link that I had to use for the 1.1 Patch:
