First of all, this game isn’t for everyone, you’ll either love it or hate it, its very polarizing. If you’re looking for a more linear, cinematic, story driven campaign, Crimson Desert might not be for you.

Personally, I love it so much. It delivers exactly what I expect from an open-world game that offers sense of adventure, freedom, mystery, "What Ifs" scenario and curiosity, all backed by great attention to detail and mechanism that really enhances immersion. It’s easy to get completely lost in exploration, with tons of contents like quests, enemies, building your base, puzzles, random encounter and hidden secrets. The world, NPCs, and environments react dynamically to your actions, which makes everything feel alive. The scale is massive, with dense and varied biomes that offer plenty of unpredictable activities.

Combat is gear-based rather than level-based and you can mix match perks between equipment, which makes progression feel rewarding, especially when skills tied to exploration and items. Boss fights can be tough and sometimes frustrating yet still its fun.

The soundtrack is good, though some areas could use more ambient sound to improve immersion. The UI, inventory navigation, remap button and storage systems also feel like they could use some update improvement (I'm using controller anyway, i think its atrocious of you are using M+K)

Considering the scale and visual quality, the optimization is actually pretty good. I’m running it on a decent PC and also ROG Ally, and it performs well on my PC (2K Cinematic DLSS 4.5 DLAA RT RR) and playable state on ROG Ally (720p Low FSR Quality FG) with no memory leaks even after long play sessions. And also no crashes so far.

The story is a bit scattered and slow paced. Several hours at beginning as tutorial is kinda boring. The story focuses on Kliff’s past, his leadership building Greymane, and survive in Pywel. The main character is the world itself, Pywel that holds various secret to learn and explore. The ability to switch between Greymane characters in a GTA-style system is a nice touch, though. There are affinity system and factions on this game but sadly it lacks romance feature.

Hopefully, future updates will address the bugs and polish the overall experience to perfection. Also Dev already aware about these problem, they already release two patch and a hotfoxes prior to this review.

Overall, Crimson Desert sets a new benchmark for open-world design. It offers hundreds of hours of varied gameplay that truly captures the joy of exploration combining the curiosity-driven discovery of Elden Ring, the immersive world of Skyrim, and the sense of sandbox adventure found in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. So far Crimson Desert is my favorite games in 2026, its so fun and i cant stop thinking about it when I'm not playing it
