Baxter, a scruffy golden retriever pup, zoomed across the meadow just as the sun peeked over the hills. His ears flopped wildly, and his tongue lolled out in pure joy. Mid-run, he spotted Old Maple, the tallest tree in the field—its limbs stretching wide like welcoming arms.

Instinct took over. With a surprising burst of energy, Baxter veered off course and charged headlong toward the tree. His paws kicked up dust as he skidded to a stop at the trunk, then—like a squirrel-chasing daredevil—he leapt and clawed against the bark. The old tree shivered with each enthusiastic bounce.

He made it three feet high before gravity reminded him who was boss. Suddenly, his paws lost grip, and he tumbled sideways, landing in a glorious cloud of grass and giggles—his own delighted barks echoing louder than his thud.
