When it comes to RTS games, Call to Arms: Gates of Hell feels like what you get when you take Company of Heroes 2 — already one of the better WWII strategy games — and turn everything up a notch.

There’s just a lot here. Mods, multiple game modes, and Dynamic Conquest, which almost feels like a roguelike with how each campaign plays out differently. The gameplay is deep and tactical, and you’ve got a lot of freedom in how you approach fights. It’s the kind of game where you’re still learning new things dozens of hours in.

The only real downside is the price. With all the DLC, it’s not cheap. But since a friend gifted it to me for Christmas, I can’t really complain.

There’s plenty to learn, and it’s easy to sink serious time into it. The 100 euros it cost with all the DLC on sale has already paid off for me — and I’m pretty sure it’ll pay off several times over.

Not the easiest RTS to get into, but definitely one of the most rewarding.
