This sort of thing lives and dies on its character writing. Fortunately, the character writing in this is *pristine*. The management gameplay is also super neat, if slightly unbalanced (a couple characters are head-and-shoulders better than others).

It's good. It has the top-shelf aesthetics and tight narrative integration that I guess is kinda Supergiant's signature at this point. Worth noting in particular is the excellent soundtrack and endearing character writing (and voice work).
Combat can get a little samey, but it takes awhile before that's the case (6 weapons, 3 unlockable variants for each, plus the variation in access to olympians' boons run-to-run) and it is otherwise fundamentally solid. It's cool that the roguelite gameplay chassis is perfectly aligned with the setting and premise of the game, and then continues to be so after your first clear and into the end/postgame.

Also you can flirt with death.
