Also before I forget, you have to use your "Use item" key (E by default) to pick survivors up, shooting the air above them does not help in the standard game.

In l4d2, some infected can be "shoved" off of survivors by hitting the zombie or pounced survivor with your right mouse button (m2) attack.

This knocks the zombie/tongue off of the survivor and if used on a zombie stuns them temporarily.
