By far the best execution of a "Rhythm game meets RPG" I've played!

Each mech has unique mechanics and equipment, which gives a ton of options for different playstyles. But it's not just you out there, you have to worry about your enemy's moves too! I found the gameplay really interesting, switching from offense and defense depending on the situation and type of enemy, and weighing short-term and long-term value (especially for some mechs, there's one that's a deckbuilding minigame where you upgrade cards mid-battle!)

The game's systems had a lot more depth than I expected, but the polish also added a ton to the enjoyment of the game. The goofy dance animations are super satisfying to watch, especially when you hit a long chain of notes or use a big flashy ability! I 100%ed the game at the time of writing this but still occasionally boot the game up just to mess around, the combat is genuinely just a lot of fun!

I'm usually more focused on mechanics when I play games, but I definitely enjoyed the story of this game. It does a good job of feeding you bits of information through the game alluding to mysteries of the past that all come together at the end. The characters are endearing and the game has good area variety to keep exploration fresh.

I can tell this game had so much love put into it and it really, really shows! If it sounds even remotely interesting you're able to get the free demo and then transfer your progress to the full game, you've got nothing to lose except missing out on a great adventure!

Early Access Review
An absolute THRILL to play!
F-Zero GX is probably my favorite racing game of all time, and nothing else felt like it was a contender for that title until I played XF! The sense of crazy high-speeds is done perfectly, and feels even better with the with a fantastic soundtrack! I'm also a real big fan of the track design, the F-Zero inspiration is displayed proudly on some of them, but there's also some great new types of tracks such as ones with offroad and water that keep the gameplay feeling varied and fresh. Also love the design of the RAM/Overboost system, it adds a layer of strategic risk/reward where you want to keep a boost chain going for as long as possible for maximum speed, but also you might want to save some boost in case you crash and need a quick recovery!

This game has been an absolute blast to play, and if it's this awesome in early access I'm SO hyped for the final release! A must-play for anyone who's a fan of goin fast!

Overall I really enjoyed my time with this game!
The core gameplay of the parry-based rhythm battles feels incredibly well-polished and satisfying, with of course some great tunes to go with!

It's honestly insane to me how much of an improvement the combo system is compared to Everhood 1! You'll find yourself having to make split-second decisions on whether you should try to build an ever bigger combo for exponential damage, or if you want to play it safe and guarantee you'll get some damage in, which I found super fun!

The story kinda feels like it's all over the place, it's pretty cryptic and convoluted how everything fits together. Even after finishing the game a few times I still couldn't tell you what the hell is actually going on. So instead I found myself latching onto the individual stories of the characters instead of the overarching narrative. It felt pretty cool going to all these seemingly random and strange areas just to somehow meet up with the same group of characters, and to see them go through their own journey until everything comes together in the end (especially this giant rat guy in a Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses named Irvine, he's the best I love him so much).

But yeah before I go just gotta say again how great this game FEELS to play! I would have bought it instantly even if it was just the combat segments, but as I played through I found myself enjoying the rest of it as well, with fun areas to explore, good characters, and some genuinely hilarious moments!

Pretty good short little game!
I agree that having some sort of indicator pointing to off-screen enemies would be pretty useful, but otherwise I enjoyed my time with the game!
Also the soundtrack rocks 😎

they should rename this game to yakuza: like a peak cuz of how epic it is...

But seriously, this game is fantastic! It's funny, it's emotionally touching, and worth a hell of a lot more than $20!
