I was really excited for this game that immediately made me think of a modern take of the classic Dark Messiah game.

For an early access game there are some things that are REALLY good, and some that dont really work and i hope change.

For the positives, the game looks absolutely incredible. Some absolutely fantastic environments from the mountains and distant views of lakes and forests to the detailed buildings and statues and such. The playable character and enemies look great aswell. The worldbuilding is done well and i felt invested in the lore of the game and the characters journey.

Its a smart move to incorporate the gameplay mechanics of Dark Messiah because it is a winning concept that is really fun. The melee combat and magic system and knocking enemies around and utilizing the environment to defeat your foes.

Now for the things that i think need to improve.

- Combat and controls
Please please please give us light attack on left mouse, heavy attack on held left mouse and block on right mouse.
It often feels like the enemies outreach you and that you just swing over their head. This becomes frustrating. Weapons could use some more reach and bigger hitbox to alleviate this. Also because you are slow, enemies have range and outreach you it makes it harder to utilize the arena and the environment to your benefit.

- Alchemy
It is an interesting system, but ultimately it didnt feel very satisfying. I ended up pretty much only using the health/mana potions. I used some of the weapon coatings for the boss fights, but it didnt really feel impactful. I felt like i just picked up a lot of ingredients for not a lot of gain. Which ultimately led it to just feel like a filler mechanic. Also only having 4 potion slots and not being able to use potions from the inventory really makes the mechanic suffer. As well as having a crowded inventory with a bunch of different potions you have to juggle.

- Environment
Interactions with the environment are sometimes good, like telekinesis to throw items at enemies. Othertimes bad, like kicking an item barely moves it, but if you jump into it, it breaks. Its quite inconsistens at the moment.

Overall verdict, it needs a lot of fine tuning and improvements to truly feel good. I believe it is a solid base of a game that has a lot of potential. I enjoyed the game for these 2-3 hours of gameplay currently available, but it needs a lot of improvement of its systems first and then more content to truly be a winner.

I had to change this review to negative for the Sony thing and now i have to change it to negative again. This time its not becuse of Sony but Arrowhead. I'm not gonna write an entire essay about this but for gods sake stop nerfing good weapons while giving the most whimpy buffs to weapons that basically nobody ever uses or just pretend like they dont exist. Buff the weapons that needs buffs, make your weapons and the game fun.

Performance is mostly solid, 60 fps all around dips to 40 at some performance heavy places but usually gets back to 60

Why just choose one job in real life when you can abandon society, crash land on an alien planet and take up the mantle of civilization yourself. You are an aristocrat, engineer, and warmonger. You will dish out punishment with grenades at machine gun speeds and eerie precision to those who deserve it (trees, aliens etc.). You will literally throw railway tracks out the window of the locomotive as to construct the railway in front of you while riding at dangerous speeds. You will feast on fine dining fish and nothing else because it is the finest of foods a gentlengineer can consume. You are a god and no man or alien will stop you.

I am a simple man. I get to slay dragons with overwhelming cannon fire? I get to devour armies of men with giant spiders? I get to destroy the world with legions of heavily armed warmongering soldiers? I get to trample ratmen with hordes of dinosaurs? I get to raise armies of the undead and cackle as the living flee in fear? I play game hundreds of hours. Simple.

When the devs put in traps into the game that instakill you when you set them up you know the devs arent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ serious.


Only buy this game if you like playing in 15 fps.
