As a remake of a classic game? It's great, does what it set out to do, maintains and respects what the original was, and if that's what you as a buyer want out of this then it's a great buy.

On the flip side of the coin I also think because it tries to maintain faithfulness to the original it...lacks luster? It's not lacking in appearances, and gameplay is overall fine. My problem is that even compared to other JRPGs of its own era the story is just not that interesting and the lack of a named, set in stone party just with swappable classes means there isn't even much characterization to be had and the story aspect of the game really suffers for it just the same as the original FF1 and 3 did.
