I fell in love with both of the VR versions, and I'm happy that folks have a platform to play this cute adventure on without a VR Headset. Quill is a huge comfort character of mine :) Help make Moss Book III happen!

In terms of controls, the transition is pretty darn seamless and intuitive. The camera is also good! I had worries about when this was initially announced how the camera would be adapted, but I think it's pretty darn good. So far I definitely think that the VR version is the ideal version to play this game just due to the difference in environment and feeling like you as a reader have a more direct role to play, so it has less immersion, but that shouldn't be a problem if you haven't tried Moss before!

The storybook sense of wonder that Moss gives is SO nice. It's very reminiscent of other woodland critter fantasies out there with a sprinkle of magic tossed in. It's a very simple game with cute little puzzles and collect-a-thon aspects that leaves you checking every little nook and cranny for illustration pieces or breaking barrels to collect dust. If you ever have the chance, please try out this game! Recommended for all ages :) It's a gorgeous tale.
Also, make sure to pet and comfort the mouse. This is mandatory.

I've not finished this adaptation yet, but if any of my opinions change, I'll add in things to this review! Keep up the good work Polyarc, I hope this gathers some more players to Glassbreakers too :>

Okay for real. Overall a decent game. Not great, but 7, or maybe an 8/10. For the price, it's worth it. It looks good in its own style and runs well. The story leaves some bits to be desired imho though. It is a typical fairy-tale, but nothing much more. It's EXTREMELY CUTE though oh my god. You can even pet the mousie :3

The biggest issue are the controls.
For the love of god:


It is pure pain!
You will miss jumps, you will die...A LOT, especially in the finale.

Why would you use a keyboard? This game is made for controllers!
Maybe I don't have a controller?!
Okay, that's a partial lie. I THOUGHT I don't have a controller, but this game made me dig up one of those old Logitech gamepads. I used to play Rogue Squadron 3D with this. YEPP...it's THAT old. Still works though.

Anyway, the transition from VR did not do the controls any favor and I cannot understand people saying "This is intuitive and easy!", because it objectively isn't. Not subjectively, OBJECTIVELY and I can tell you why:

I do have Book 1 as the VR version. I bought this re-release, because my VR setup is currently unusable, due to space constraints, but I did play it in VR, when I still had the opportunity. VR offers a unique experience in terms of controls. It uses the controller, specifically the analog stick control, so you can move Quill and this "port" clearly shows, that this is, how you have to control her, it is just more precise, giving you a greater range of direction, which is good for a jump and run.
However, this game also has a second character, which is the reader, aka you. The reader can interact with certain objects in the gaming world, requiring to "touch" said object. In VR, this works flawlessly, because touching virtual objects is kind of the point of the motion controls. It works seamlessly and is intuitive.
Now take that away and you have the challenge of:

With what do you replace it with?

Good question! You have two options:

1.) The other stick on the controller.
That works...semi-well. Don't get me wrong, it does work, but it feels like playing an RTS, or a point-and-click adventure with a controller. Kinda works, but it feels janky and imprecise. There are just things that are better with a controller and some, that are not. This is not!

2.) Use a mouse.
Now THIS is where it's at. A mouse is made for pointing at things. Exactly, what we need.

But wait...now you have two schemes, that collide with each other and I have already said, that you MUST NOT play this game with a keyboard, if you don't want to be frustrated.

"So the ideal way would be controller and mouse? Say what?"

Yeah...I mean...yeah, that would indeed be ideal. You can KIND OF make it work, having both at hand. The game can switch seamlessly between inputs. But some passages feel best, if you use BOTH Quill and the reader at the same time.

So effectively, you are stuck between two worlds, that just do not want to work together, but also do not work that well on their own.

Can you play this game one way, or another? Certainly.
Will it feel great? 50%, yes and 50% not so much. ^^'

Honestly, I also do not know, how one would make this specific scheme work outside of VR. Compromises have to be made, I guess. I just wanted to be open about this, as I have tried multiple things.

Other than that, I'd recommend the game, especially, since it also comes with Book II. The ending of Book I alone feels like a real cliffhanger and the game is also not THAT long. Took me under 5 hours to get through Book I and that's WITH my control-shenanigans.

So far, it is a 7/10 for me, which is NOT bad. A 7 is "decent". It's a decent game, it is priced well for that, I recommend it as such. Maybe I'll adjust my scoring later.

It's really hard to not make the scoring just about the cute mouse.
