Not sure what else to say, doesn't really change anything about my statements
Combining genres and game mechanics that have already been proven to work or captured the hearts of many and just refining them and seeing what combinations work together is how we got genres like Metroidvanias, among many many others.
It's how we went from Doom and Quake clones being the thought-to-be eternal "frameworks" of what 3D shooters will always be to more modern shooters, etc.
