Howdy folks. As your building you characters, here's a little background to help you get in the mindset.

You live in a fairly typical fantasy world. Any and all DnD tropes can be found here in some way. Magic is abundant but not pervasive; with most folk knowing of magic, but not everyone experiencing or needing it in their daily lives.

The area you will be starting in is a wholesome country of rich hills and healthy grasses. Largely inhabitted by humans and halflings, much of the countryside is set for farming, with a fair roads for travel and trade. Pescor is its name, and fewer places in all the wide world could be more pleasant to settle down in.

Peaceful country though Pescor is, it is not unheard of for a monster to be discovered somewhere in the countryside. Usually dispatched by adventurers, most folks don't worry about such beasts that wander down from the dark north. Of late however such occurances have seemed all too frequent. Many have found travellers slain on the roads, and once peaceful dells have become monster haunted death traps. What's more, some have noticed odd changes in magic. Items once mystical have been losing their power, while previously mundane items blosom with arcane might. Some spellcasters are are likewise coming into new power, while others find even their cantrips difficult.

It is in such a time of uncertainty you adventurers findyourselves in Emersdale, a large village about to celebrate the festival of its founding. You have all travelled to Emersdale for the same reason, you seek counsel in these dark times with the most legendary adventurer of all, the woman known only as "Grandma". A paragon adventurer, Grandma is often on the move. The only day one can ever account for her is on Emersdale's festival day. During the festival Grandma gives a speech, warmly recieved as she is a local hero, and promises to grant any request in her power to those who pass her challenge.

You have arrived to Emersdale early. During the festival tomorrow you hope to pass Grandma's challenge, and see what light she can shed on these recent goings on.
