I will say though, I said "virtually" every single person. there *is* one exception: one person in my friends list I am 100% aware is an active cheater.
we don't queue together and he only cheats against other cheaters typically, but if i run into him on a server he's more than happy to share info about what cheats another player might be using.

he's even offered to develop a stripped-down cheat client for me. one that wouldn't let me wallhack/aimbot, but would allow me to bypass sv_pure as most cheat clients do.
I declined the offer, because most mods that i would want to use, i already can via precaching the files. i also do not want to possibly risk my account receiving a VAC ban.

do you know why i don't "care" about what bans, VAC or community, people on my friends list have? because i know what their bans are for already, because i am capable of researching. and i've vetted virtually every single person on my friends list in some form to ensure that their bans are not related to TF2 cheating.

- "sillys | festive" - detected by multiple cheater lists, and even was banned from my community three months ago for being an alt of a cheater.

by SteamHistory's metrics, i've only ever had 8 people with VAC bans on my friends list across the 15 years my account's been around. the same count for Game Banned players too -- 8, though Game Bans are not TF2-adjacent and I don't generally play multiplayer games other than TF2, so this is irrelevant.

among those VAC-banned players, 2 current VAC-banned people are on my friends list.
one of those people is an active TF2 workshop contributor whose VAC ban isn't for TF2 (and is from joining a hacked lobby in Call of Duty years ago, iirc), and the other is a guy who added me from a casual 2fort game like a year ago and i've never interacted with since - no idea what game his ban is from.

to "rant" implies a negative connotation. i don't rant, because i don't get mad at video games. i type a lot because it's difficult for me to convey things in a concise manner while still giving as much detail as possible. bit of a problem even at work, too.

anyways, i just realized... are you using the number of people with "sourcebans" as your metric for how many banned people I'm associated with? do you realize that those are not adjacent with Valve bans whatsoever?
if i or any other server operator *wanted* to, they could add you to their server's SourceBans database for 30 seconds for literally any reason. you wouldn't even have to ever joined those servers, but it'd still get put onto SteamHistory permanently.

Also if you’re literally staff involved with very well known and arguably pillar like communities in TF2 why do you have so many friends with bad reps? It just doesn’t make sense, I assume you’re more of a casual gamer like me because even though you have 10x the hours I would say we are similarly skilled (in general, you probably have crazy engine knowledge and tech I obviously don’t) so why involve with people that make you look bad? It seems you don’t understand the connotation or weight that “cheater” actually has online, it’s literally almost a label as bad as being a predator, people don’t want you in their spaces even if it’s well into the past and well, what do you gain from having a bunch of these people on your friends list? Considering you are more than just a player and more of mini-parasocial micro celebrity thing… it just makes no sense to me!

It doesn’t matter if they play tf2 or not, if I am friends with a cult leader who has his followers do murders but he is based on other countries I am not from does that free me from suspicion? No one types or argues this much to prove they’re not a cheater or at least cheater supporter unless they are one, and even if you aren’t it’s still arguably weird :/ it’s just a game but why do you and specifically your fiends have to go and ruin it?

want to know what those bans actually are from ? at the time, we had SMAC on the servers, and I bought a new mouse that supported macros.

the servers also have an "Advanced Infinite Ammo" plugin, which has a quirk with the Manmelter. if you press mouse2, it spews the flame particles as if you extinguished someone.

I assigned a macro to rapidly press mouse2 so I could spam the flame particles while spinning around, making a circle of (harmless) fire around me.
SMAC detected the macro usage as "autofire" and applied a ban, as it was not configured to distinguish between a normal player and a mod.
other mods who were online saw it and unbanned me and we had a giggle in our group chat about it.

I can have these bans erased at, quite literally, any time. I've explicitly chosen not to, because it's really good bait

now, for the funny: I was and still am a moderator of those very servers for over a decade . you can go to the Steam group and find me listed there, or the Discord server, or find me whenever I'm on the actual TF2 servers.

his entire gimmick is to charge the classic around the corner and shoot before people get a chance to react. hard to say if he's cheating or not, but my teammates sure think so (incl. someone who had 2x his hours)

either way, his gameplan falls apart once you just pay attention to where his tracer goes and then just hardscoping that corner

three people on my team called wise monk out for cheating over comms incl. an spy who he pre-aimed at while they were invis (which i was spectating at the time conveniently enough)

then he proceeded to lose the sniper 1v1 and stopped trying to engage with me at all (no words in chat were ever exchanged)
